What will my child be learning about during Autumn Term?
We have lots of new and exciting topics to explore this half term!
In Maths, the children will be learning to:
Understanding numbers from 0-10.
Addition and Subtraction (within 10).
Shape
Place Value (within 20).
Our new English text:
We will be reading this story, 'Old Bear'. We will using our own ambitious vocabulary to re-write the story through sentences including using our own grammatical features.
In Science, we will be learning about animals, including humans, exploring our bodies, senses and different types of animals. We will also observe seasonal changes, looking at how the weather, daylight and the world around us change throughout the year.
In History, we will be learning about toys in the 1960s. We will explore what toys and games were like in the past and compare them with the toys we play with today. We will think about what has changed and what has stayed the same.
In Art, we will be exploring the work of artist Paul Klee. We will look closely at his artwork and explore how he used lines, shapes and colours. We will experiment with warm and cool colours and use different techniques to create our own artwork inspired by Paul Klee.
In RE, we will be learning about Christianity. We will explore stories from the Bible and discuss how Christians use these teachings to help guide the way they live their lives.
In Computing, we will be exploring digital art. We will learn how to use different digital tools to create pictures, experiment with colours and shapes, and create our own pieces of artwork.
When will my child have PE?
PE Days are currently Monday and Friday.
Please ensure your child is wearing full PE kit on these days. See the uniform page on our website for more details.

What homework will my child get?
Homework is given weekly and will reflect learning children have done that week in class. All homework is given on a Friday in their homework book and should be returned to class by the following Wednesday.
The homework will feature instructions on how to complete and should be completed independently by the child where possible.
Why is reading so important?
Reading is an integral part of your child's learning. Each Friday your child will come home with a reading book reflective of their current phonological understanding. Please aim to read with your child a minimum of 4 times over the week, noting this in their reading diary. A short comment regarding progress, any tricky sounds/words or general feedback can be included to inform the class teacher.
Alongside this, your child will access the whole school library each week. They will choose a 'reading for pleasure' book to be brought home. This book is not for the child to read independently, but to be shared alongside a grown-up or sibling to reinforce a love for reading and immerse them into a variety of genres, settings and characters. There is no expectation to write a comment about this book in your child's diary.
Phonics
In Phonics, we are currently working through the Autumn phase of Little Wandle. We are learning lots of new sounds and practising how to recognise them in words. We will continue to develop our blending skills tod words and our segmenting skills to help us with our writing and spelling help us to read.
