Acorn Class- Nursery

Welcome to Acorn class

This term, we are learning about the … Life on the Farm.

Hello Eaves families,

We’re so excited for another fun-filled term on the farm! The children will be exploring the world of animals and their young — learning how they grow, change, and are cared for. We’ll be sharing lots of lovely stories and information books, playing matching games with adult animals and their babies, and enjoying small world play with our farm animals. There will be opportunities to watch how animals change over time, learn the different sounds they make, and get creative with drawings of their favourite animals and their young.

Alongside this, we’ll be learning all about the numbers 4 and 5. The children will explore reading and writing the numerals, practise subitising (recognising quantities without counting), and investigate different ways to make and represent 4 and 5.

We’re especially looking forward to a special visit from Acorn Farm in June, where the children will have the chance to meet real animals and learn even more about life on the farm! It’s going to be a playful, hands-on term full of curiosity, discovery, and lots of animal fun!

With warm regards,

Miss Heslin

Little Wandle Foundation Phonics

Last term, we launched our Little Wandle Foundations Phonics. We have learned to sing the rhymes Hickory Dickory Dock, Hey Diddle Diddle and Round and Round the Garden. We have played different listening games and begun to tune into sounds.

A copy of our Little Wandle Rhyme will be available for you to sing and enjoy at home on our weekly newsletter or all of our Little Wandle Rhymes are available to watch on the link below.

Home Learning - Reading for Pleasure

Encouraging children to read for pleasure is very important for their growth and happiness. Here are some reasons why:

1. Opens Up New Worlds: Reading allows little ones to imagine, explore new places, and get to know different characters, which sparks their creativity and helps them learn.

2. Improves Well-being and Empathy: Through stories, children can learn about themselves and others, helping them understand different perspectives and feelings.

3. Enhances Literacy Skills: When children read regularly, they build their vocabulary and language, setting a strong foundation for their future education.

4. Reduces Stress: Reading can be a soothing activity, helping children to relax and feel calm.

By encouraging a love for reading, we help our children to develop important skills and a lifelong positive attitude towards learning. It's crucial to make reading fun and every Friday, we will send home a picture book for you to enjoy reading with your child. Books will be given out every Friday in a zip wallet and must be returned on Thursday.
