Safeguarding Curriculum
Safeguarding at Eaves Primary School
At Eaves Primary School, the safety and well-being of our children is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a caring, supportive environment where all pupils feel safe, valued and confident to speak up. Our safeguarding approach and curriculum are designed to equip children with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to stay safe both in school and beyond.
We draw upon high-quality, trusted resources from organisations such as the NSPCC, Barnardo’s (PATHS) and Jigsaw, recognising their expertise in safeguarding, child protection and emotional well-being.
Our Safeguarding Approach
A Whole-School Curriculum
Safeguarding is embedded throughout our curriculum and wider school life. Children learn about personal safety, online safety and the importance of sharing worries with trusted adults in an age-appropriate and sensitive way.
Engaging and Practical Learning
Lessons are delivered through a range of interactive approaches, including discussion, role play, real-life scenarios and workshops. These methods help children to understand how to keep themselves and others safe.
Developing Resilience
We support children to develop confidence and resilience, teaching them how to recognise risks, understand boundaries and seek help when they need it.
Empowering Children
Through carefully planned lessons, pupils learn to make informed choices, recognise unsafe situations and understand the importance of consent, respect and personal boundaries.
Key Areas of Learning
Personal Safety
Children are taught about body autonomy, personal space and appropriate touch. Additional topics include water safety, road safety, bikeability, people who help us, and understanding how to stay safe around strangers.
Personal, Social, Spiritual, Moral and Character Development
Our PSHE provision is underpinned by the Jigsaw programme and enhanced to meet the needs of individual pupils and cohorts. PATHS workshops further support emotional literacy and positive behaviour, with staff trained to deliver this effectively.
Online Safety
Pupils learn how to navigate the digital world safely, including understanding online risks, cyberbullying and how to protect personal information.
Anti-Bullying
We promote kindness, respect and inclusion, and provide children with strategies to prevent and respond to bullying behaviour.
Speaking Up and Seeking Help
Children are taught who they can talk to if they feel worried or unsafe, both in school and outside of it.
School Values and Expectations
Our values underpin all aspects of school life and guide our approach to safeguarding and well-being.
Working in Partnership with Parents
Safeguarding is most effective when schools and families work together. We value strong partnerships with parents and carers to ensure children feel safe and supported at home and at school.
Parent Workshops and Information Sessions
We offer opportunities for parents to learn more about our safeguarding curriculum and how they can reinforce key messages at home.
Open and Honest Communication
We encourage regular communication between families and school staff so that any concerns can be shared and addressed swiftly and effectively.
Working with our Partners
At Eaves Primary School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. By working in partnership with a range of trusted organisations, we provide our pupils with a rich, proactive safeguarding curriculum that supports their safety, wellbeing and future success. From learning about personal safety, online awareness and healthy lifestyles, to building confidence, resilience and life skills, these partnerships help us deliver meaningful, age-appropriate experiences for all children. Together, we empower our pupils to make informed choices, understand risks, and develop the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe, healthy and prepared for the opportunities ahead.
Water Safety Visit from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service
We were delighted to welcome a representative from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service to school to talk to our children about the importance of staying safe around water.
The children learned valuable water safety messages and discussed what they should do if they ever find themselves in difficulty in the water. The session helped to raise awareness of potential dangers and gave children practical strategies to keep themselves and others safe.
Key water safety advice included:
Stay calm and float if you unexpectedly fall into water.
Float like a starfish – spread your arms and legs out to help you stay afloat.
Keep your head tilted back and your ears in the water to help with floating.
Control your breathing and avoid panicking.
Shout for help if you are in trouble.
Do not swim to safety straight away – take time to regain control of your breathing first.
If you see someone else in difficulty, do not enter the water. Instead, call 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service.
Look for something to throw to the person in trouble, such as a lifebuoy or rope, while keeping yourself safe.
We would like to thank Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for taking the time to visit our school and share these important life-saving messages with our pupils.
