Global Learning
Promoting Global Learning at Eaves Primary School
At Eaves Primary School, our curriculum is designed to prepare pupils for life in a diverse and interconnected world. We place strong emphasis on developing knowledgeable, reflective and responsible individuals who understand their place within both their local community and the wider global context.
Global learning is carefully sequenced through our curriculum, with the Jigsaw PSHE scheme playing a central role in supporting pupils’ personal development. Through this approach, children revisit and build upon key themes such as identity and belonging, relationships, equality, sustainability, and rights and responsibilities. This progression ensures that pupils develop a secure understanding over time, enabling them to think critically about global issues and their own values.
Our curriculum is deliberately designed to provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to apply their learning. Across subjects, children explore different cultures, perspectives and global challenges, allowing them to make connections and deepen their understanding. This supports pupils in becoming respectful, informed and active participants in society.
Personal development is at the heart of our provision. Through structured PSHE lessons, assemblies and wider curriculum experiences, pupils are supported to develop empathy, resilience and a strong sense of fairness. They are encouraged to consider different viewpoints, engage in discussion and reflect on their responsibilities as members of a global community.
We also enrich our curriculum through opportunities to engage beyond the classroom. International links and collaborative projects allow pupils to develop cultural awareness and communication skills, bringing global learning to life in a purposeful way.
The impact of our global learning approach can be seen in pupils’ attitudes and behaviours. Children demonstrate respect for others, show an understanding of diversity, and are able to articulate their views on important global themes. They leave Eaves Primary equipped not only with knowledge, but with the confidence and awareness needed to contribute positively to the world around them.
