Eaves Primary School – Equality Information and Objectives Statement

Eaves Primary School is committed to promoting equality, inclusion and respect for all members of the school community. We recognise our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, which provides protection from discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the basis of protected characteristics. In a school context, this means it is unlawful to discriminate against or treat pupils less favourably due to characteristics such as sex, race, disability, religion or belief, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, or pregnancy and maternity.

The Equality Act 2010 requires schools and other public bodies to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation

  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

  • Foster positive relationships and mutual respect between different groups

Equality and Diversity at Eaves Primary School

As required by the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), Eaves Primary School publishes equality information and sets clear, measurable equality objectives which are reviewed and updated at least every four years. These objectives are informed by analysis of pupil outcomes, attendance, behaviour and wider school information. They identify areas where targeted action is needed to reduce disadvantage, remove barriers to learning and ensure all pupils can achieve well.

Eaves Primary School serves a diverse and inclusive community. We recognise that children bring a wide range of experiences, backgrounds and identities into school. Through our curriculum, assemblies, enrichment activities and daily practice, we actively promote tolerance, respect and understanding. Pupils are supported to develop a strong sense of fairness and to appreciate cultural, religious and social differences, preparing them effectively for life in modern Britain.

How We Promote Equality and Diversity at Eaves Primary School

Positive Interaction
Regular opportunities are provided for pupils to work collaboratively and respectfully with others. Cooperative learning strategies are embedded within classroom practice, encouraging teamwork, communication and mutual respect. Educational visits and visitors to school further enhance pupils’ understanding of different communities, roles and experiences.

Learning About Difference
The curriculum is designed to support pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Subjects such as religious education, history and geography help pupils to develop an understanding of different faiths, cultures and societies. Pupils may learn about migration, local and global communities, and historical change. English, drama and creative subjects provide opportunities to explore difference through stories, discussion, role-play and reflection, using a range of high-quality texts and resources.

Challenging Stereotypes
At Eaves Primary School, teaching actively challenges stereotypes and promotes high expectations for all pupils. Curriculum content is carefully selected to reflect diversity in gender, ethnicity, disability and background. Teachers use inclusive examples, language and resources across all subjects to ensure pupils see a wide range of people represented in different roles and careers. Discussions are encouraged to help pupils question assumptions, challenge prejudice and develop critical thinking skills. This approach supports pupils in understanding that ability, ambition and achievement are not limited by stereotypes.

Developing Empathy and Understanding
Pupils are encouraged to consider perspectives different from their own, helping them to develop empathy and emotional understanding. Through age-appropriate discussion, role-play and writing activities, pupils explore the experiences of people who have faced challenge, inequality or exclusion. This supports pupils’ personal development and helps them to understand the importance of kindness, fairness and respect in building positive relationships.

Celebrating Diversity
Eaves Primary School values and celebrates diversity across the school community. Cultural events, themed learning opportunities and curriculum links enable pupils to learn about and appreciate different traditions, beliefs and lifestyles. Diversity is reflected in classroom displays, reading materials and learning resources. Our school’s follows PSHE programme, celebrates differences, which supports pupils in understanding inclusion, respect and the benefits of living in a diverse society.
