Life in Year 2
Life in Year 2 is a crucial step in the journey of independent learning. Children are each given a role to play to ensure the day to day running of school life runs smoothly through classroom jobs. This independence is also translated into the children’s approach to their learning. Over the course of the year, their resilience, risk taking ability and resourcefulness flourishes, and children begin to take ownership of their own learning which is wonderful to see!
Mornings begin with daily Phonics/ Comprehension, Handwriting, English and Maths followed by a range of Foundation Subjects in the afternoon. Children also have daily Mastering Number Sessions which are helping them make links in their basic maths skills (plus they love it when they get to use the Rekenreks!)
In Year 2, children are introduced to Accelerated Reading where they can access books from the School Library and do quizzes on them when they have read them… they love this part! Towards the end of the year, children show off all of their KS1 learning through SATs. Over the course of the year, there will be opportunities to enhance the children’s knowledge and enrichment through visitors and trips.
