Our Vision for PSHE…

At Eaves, we believe that through our PSHE and relationships curriculum we are providing our children with the necessary tools to become active, healthy, independent and responsible decision making members of a modern society. We want all of our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves, belief in others, tolerance and emotional resilience to support their journey beyond life at Eaves.

What we want for our pupils;

To develop skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy and safe
To develop an attitude of a responsible global citizen

Why is PSHE important?

PSHE is at the heart of all we do at Eaves as research shows the positive impact of an effective PSHE curriculum on pupil attainment and positive outcomes for learners. Our PSHE curriculum is entwined into our whole school ethos and it is a curriculum that will always be developing and will never be static to ensure that we are providing the most relevant curriculum for our children that reflects the society they live within.

What PSHE looks like…

As a school, we will use the statutory content within the National Curriculum and from other statutory guidance on: drug education, financial education, sex and relationship education (SRE) and the importance of physical activity and diet for a healthy lifestyle. Through our thematic approach to teaching we encourage our pupils to play an active and positive role in contributing to the life of the school and its wider community. Through doing this, we help develop children’s independence, responsibility and help create a strong sense of self-worth and belonging. At Eaves we use a range of teaching and learning styles with an emphasis on active learning by including the children in highly engaged discussions, investigations and problem-solving activities. We believe it is vital to bring the curriculum alive and really challenge our children to often step outside of their comfort zone in a supportive and trust driven environment. PSHE will be taught in a variety of ways, to reflect the age of the pupils and ensure a whole school approach to the subject. In doing so we aim to provide them with in-depth knowledge that bubbles and progresses each year allowing them to develop an active and confident voice.

Community lies at the heart of our PSHE curriculum and we ensure that our children have the opportunity to develop taught skills in real life contexts both within and beyond our school community. Children have the opportunity to take part in our buddy systems, Eaves Ears, Junior leadership team, local debates at St Helens Town Hall, charity work—local food banks as well as national charities and creating links with nursing local homes.
